If you have or are planning on taking a high-speed train to destinations to the south like Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Jinan, Qingdao, etc., it’s likely that you have traveled through or will be traveling from the Beijing South Railway Station. Luckily for you, the basement level connected to Beijing Subway Line 4 is lined with all sorts of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and shops that make it convenient for you to grab a bite, not to mention the options on the departure hall level.

China fast food heavyweights KFC and McDonalds are well represented at nearly all train stations, but at Beijing South Railway Station, you will have multiples of these and others like Burger King and Starbucks. For just a caffeine pick-me-up, there are many chains represented such as Starbucks, Pacific Coffee Co., McCafe, SPR Coffee and UBC Coffee. In addition to coffee, you can find the usual offerings like pastries, sandwiches, cakes, and more. This makes for a great option when you’re not quite hungry, but don’t mind having a coffee and snack while using the Wi-Fi before you board your train. You’ll also have access to western and Chinese food options, anywhere from burgers, pizza, rice, hot pot, noodles, etc. If you’re not sure about a full meal, consider stopping by a bakery and picking up some breads and pastries for the road later. Also, last-minute Beijing specialty products like vacuum-packed roast duck and traditional snacks are plentiful at convenience stores all around the station.
