Ordering Delivery (Food) from Your Phone Using Dianping

2014-09-04

Regular users of the popular Yelp Inc.-like website, Dianping.com, an immensely popular user reviews website in China, may notice a neat new feature in the mobile app. Users are now able to order food by using the easy-to-navigate menu!

If you haven’t already, simply download the app from your device’s app store (Apple’s App Store or the Google Play Store). Although the website and mobile app do not support an English version, it hasn’t stopped Chinese-challenged users before to take advantage of its neat features by using a website translator or dictionary. Luckily, on the home page of the app, there’s an icon with an outline of a delivery electric bicycle to point you in the right direction.

Navigating the app is a synch, as long as you can read some Chinese or use a translator/dictionary. The app will use your phone and mobile network’s resources to determine your address. If it can’t correctly determine your location, you can input your address. Next, a list of places that can deliver appears, giving the names, picture of the restaurant listing, rating, minimum order ($) for delivery, type of food, how many times it’s been used by others, distance away, and if it’s open or closed. Once you select a listing, you can view more specific information at the top of the page as well as a menu. After selecting which items you want to order, you can place your order. After placing your order, you can track if your order has been submitted and progress of delivery.
