The China Open is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Beijing and launched in 2004. It owns the right to host the tournaments of the three international tennis organizations (ATP, WTA and ITF), and it is the most comprehensive international tennis event with the highest level and the most players in Asia.

As the symbol of Beijing in the post-Olympic era, China Open is continuously improving the popularity and international influence of the event. Taking the year of 2012 as an example, the tournament attracted about 270,400 live spectators as the whole number; the domestic broadcasting exceeded 356 hours; the international broadcasting reached 2450 hours, covering international audience from 157 countries and regions all over the world; the official website attracted millions of visitors, 52 percentage of whom are from foreign countries, together with various forms of advertising and promotion, including outdoor advertising, printed media, internet, TV, radio, terminal channel, as well as print advertising. The annual total media value of the event exceeded 4.2 billion RMB.

Lotus Court is main venue of the National Tennis Center. Composed of twelve petals, it stretches the bodies under the blue sky and white clouds, and seems like a lotus flower in blossom. Thus, the venue is named the Lotus Tennis Court. The stand in the central venue is divided into twelve parts, which become higher and higher as the quantity of seats in each part changes and just look like twelve petals. These petals and the white cover overlap to form an unearthly lotus flower.
