Founded in January 1955, China National Peking Opera Company (CNPOC) is a national ensemble of performing arts that is directly affiliated with the Ministry of Culture of PRC. The first director of CNPOC was the great Peking Opera artist Mei Lanfang. The current director is Wu Jiang, a dramatist. There are following departments in the company: Troupe I, Troupe II, Troupe III, Zhang Huoding Drama Studio and Stage Art Center.

Synopsis

Wang Yun was the Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty. He had three daughters. The eldest one Jinchuan married the Minister of Labor Su Long; the second daughter Yinchuan married Wei Hu, the Deputy Minister of Military; but the spoiled little girl Baochuan decided to choose her husband at random. She stood on the furnished tall tower at a crossroad, threw a ball to the crowd. The man who was hit by the ball would be her husband. As a result, a peddler of flowers, namely Xue Pingggui turned out to be the lucky guy; but Wang Yun broke his promise because of the economic condition of Xue Pinggui. Wang Baochuan tried her best to persuade her father but failed. She gave her father three claps to show her determination to be with Xue Pinggui regardless of any cost, and then went to the slums with Xue Pinggui. Afterwards Xue Pinggui was promoted to take charge of a regiment of the troop for his contribution in the fight with the evil spirit…
