Synopsis

The story took place in ancient China. Girl Zhu Yingtai poses as boy to attend school. On the way, she meets with scholar Liang Shanbo, and then they feel like old friends at the first meeting, and thus becoming sworn brothers on the Caoqiao with the butterfly as the witness. In the following three years, elder brother Liang Shanbo takes good care of Zhu Yingtai, and Zhu Yingtai adores Liang Shanbo for his character and learning, the poem 'I grasped your hand, I was to grow old together with you' more arouses her love for Liang Shanbo, but Liang don't know that Zhu is young girl. A letter from home urges Zhu to return quickly. They are reluctant to part. At the parting, Zhu Yingtai acts as matchmaker and introduces false Little Jiumei to Liang, and repeatedly asks him to propose as early as possible. The teacher's mother gives Zhu's pledge to Liang, Liang suddenly sees the light and rushes to Zhu Mansion, but Zhu has engaged with Ma according to her father's order. They falling in deep love meet again at terrace, but finally part forever...
