Taiyuan Dance Company's masterpiece theThousand-hand Bodhisattvais a large-scale dance-drama featuring dance, painting, and song. It will be on stage at the Opera House of the NCPA from February 19 through 22.
With seven years of preparation by the Taiyuan Dance Troupe of Shanxi Province, the large-scale dance-drama masterpiece "Thousand-hand Bodhisattva", an epic of ancient dances, paintings, and songs, will be on stage in Beijing. Based on a thousand-year-old legend of Chinese traditional culture, it vividly depicts a Chinese princess who sacrifices herself to save other people and then becomes the incarnation of thousand-arms Guanyin.

TheThousand-hand Bodhisattvaadvocates the spirit of love and goodwill, revealing the philosophy of "Having a kind heart, you would give one-thousand hands to help others, and in turn one-thousand hands would come to your help if needed."
The dance drama is created by well-known choreographer Zhang Jigang, famous Chinese choreographer, who you might remember as one of the people responsible for the ridiculously awesome closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Through Zhang’s skillful choreography, magnificent stage design and costumes, plus over hundreds of dancers participate in this production; the audience will enjoy a visual and spiritual feast of splendid Chinese culture.
