Lotte Mart is a South Korean hypermarket with stores in Beijing, competing against the likes of French hypermarket chain Carrefour, Chinese hypermarket chain Wumart and American Wal-Mart. Unlike its competitors, Lotte Mart is a division of the “Lotte” conglomerate that is headquartered in Japan and South Korea. More information about Lotte Mart will be introduced below.
In Beijing, there are six locations: Wangjing, Chongwenmen, Sidaokou, Tongzhou, Jiuxianqiao, and Yangqiao. Lotte Mart first entered the China market in 2007, after buying out Makro, an established supermarket chain from the Netherlands. The first three stores were rebranded after the acquisition and the other three opened from 2007-2008.
What’s special about Lotte Mart compared to its competitors is its connection to the Lotte brand. At Lotte Mart, a large selection of Korean Lotte products are available and the overall shopping experience adopts South Korean characteristics. Likewise, the majority of the products cater to the local Chinese market, and you can find everything you would expect from a hypermarket in Beijing. Lotte Mart has an extensive deli service that serves ready-to-eat food and an above-average produce department.
Loyal shoppers to Lotte Mart have access to occasional promotional activities and discounts. Lotte Mart has a member rewards club and singing up is easy. Lotte Mart doesn’t warrant a trip to just come here to shop, but it is an excellent choice for customers living nearby one of its six stores.
