Krav Maga has a reputation for general badassery. Evolved from the street fighting techniques that Slovakian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld deployed during the anti-Semitic riots of the 1930s in Bratislava, Krav Maga combines elements of boxing, Muay Thai, judo, Jiu Jitsu and more to form a brutally efficient discipline tailor made for real-life combat.
Today, Krav Maga is best known as the official combat training of the Israeli army. The two-hour, mixed-level class focuses on partner-based drills designed to simulate real-life threats. The first hour of class is a strike lab dedicated to kicks, punches and escapes (with emphasis on the correct form to avoid injury to yourself or your partner), while the second hour focuses on KM core, in which the techniques you’ve just learned are put to the test in simulated fights. Even after one session, we were impressed by the economy and strategy of every move.
Krav Maga Beijing holds classes every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Lessons are taught in English.
