What exactly do we mean when we sayThe Place? It’s not a vague name for an area or even a name for a club or bar. Rather, it’s a large shopping area located near the CBD housing many shops, cafes, restaurants, and ironically trendy club SPARK. Its most worthy attraction though, is its massive LED sky screen that hangs above in the air as a canopy of digital entertainment for shoppers here at night. We’ll look more into The Place below.

The Place, or Shi Mao Tian Jie (世贸天阶), is located near the heart of Beijing’s CBD on 9 Guanghua Lu, just west of the World Financial Center, a 10-minute walk north from the Silk Market, and nearby theParkviewGreen on Dongdaqiao Road. Getting here is not too difficult. Although not located right next to a subway station, it is fairly central and surrounded by three subway stations about a 10-minute walk away. It’s a unique development convenient for workers in the CBD or tourists passing by after a trip to the Silk Market.

The selection of stores at The Place is not too special when compared to other malls in the city. Rather, it’s the atmosphere here, especially at night that’s the main draw. The LED sky screen is a technological marvel, stretching from one side of the property to the other. It’s similar to the Fremont Experience in Downtown Las Vegas, NV, USA. Some of the anchor stores are ZARA and H&M, while there are tons of cafes like Starbucks, Esquires Coffee, and Paris Baguette Cafe, and over a dozen restaurants offering all types of cuisines. Definitely come here at night, and especially during the holiday seasons like Christmas when there are spectacular and visually stunning decorations on display.
