Located in the east of Jiaozi Hutong of Xuanwumenwai, Fayuan Temple (法源寺) is a very old temple in Beijing, for it was built in the early Tang Dynasty with over 1,000 years of history. This ancient temple also serves as a place to cultivate Buddhist culture. Tourists who visit the temple can also experience its culture.

Fayuan Temple sits in the north and faces the south, and features six yards. The main architectures include the Hall of Heavenly King. There is a Budai Monk statue. On the two sides, there are the four Heavenly Kings. In the main hall, the statues of Sakyamuni Buddha, Wenshu, Puxian and the eighteen arhats can be seen. Guanyin Pavilion offers historical relics too. The Dabeitan has become the Buddhism sutra exhibition hall. From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Ming Qing Dynasty, tens of statues with different expressions had been built. Especially during the Ming Dynasty, the wood carved Buddha, almost ten meters long is the largest reclining Buddha in Beijing.
Now the temple is famous for its cloves. When the cloves bloom, you can smell the fragrance from afar. Fayuan temple covers an area of 6,700 square meters. It has the symmetrical layout. From south to north, there is a gate to the monastery, Bell-Drum Tower, Hall of the Heavenly Kings, main hall, Minzhongtai, Wuliang Palace and collection of sutras Pavilion and so on.
