Deng Wei (1959-2013) was a late photographer from China famous for photographing portraits of celebrities. Deng was good at highlighting status of the figure by perfect lighting and establishing conception, especially at depicting facial expression, catching glittering instant look and tapping personality and inner world of the figures.

From the end of 1970s, Deng Wei began to take pictures for older-generation masters of culture and art field in a planned way and became a pioneer of portrait photography of celebrities of the new age. With a unique perspective and appreciation of aesthetics of a Chinese photographer, Deng Wei not only fills in gaps in Chinese portrait photography of celebrities but also keeps important images for followers to understand this age. In 2007, Deng Wei donated one hundred pieces of his works that pool his painstaking effort of decades to National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) and became the first photographer whose works were collected in large numbers by NAMOC.
On February 3, 2013, Mr. Deng Wei passed away. To recall Deng Wei, the NAMOC specially hosts this exhibition to introduce Deng’s art to more people.
