In Yanqing County there is an ancient city named Liugou Phoenix City. According to historical records,the placewas once a military fortress during the Ming Dynasty. The name Phoenix City comes from the topographical characteristics of Wengcheng City. Standing on the highland beside the village to view the entire city, you will see a fluttering phoenix.

At present, inside the ancient city there are still remains of the ancient city walls, gates, wells and so on. In addition, you can also view the ruined Great Wall. The magnificent North Gate is the representative of the ancient city. Large numbers of ancient city wall bricks have been collected and used to build today’s city wall, so that the city gate still remains great.

The only temple left in the ancient city is a not big Chenghuang Temple (城隍庙). The over 400-year-old cassia standing beside the temple is called Peace Tree by the locals. Today, it still shoulders the responsibility of protecting the locals.

Inside the city there is also an ancient well. Due to the reason that the wall of the well is covered by Panmu (盘木), the well has been called Panmu Well. It is said that the water of the well tastes good and healthy. When it is used for producing tofu, tofu will turn out to be very delicious. Therefore, the tofu in Liugou has become a legend today.
