2nd IKEA Store Opens in Beijing

2013-11-11

Already home to the 3rd largest IKEA store in the world, Beijing has just opened its second store. Since being open in 2006 at Siyuanqiao in Wangjing, IKEA has had so much success that its customers have outgrown the 42,000 sqm space. The first IKEA store in Beijing opened in 1999, the second in China, only to move to the Siyuanqiao location in 2006. The new IKEA store opened November 7, 2013 in Daxing, so customers in the south of Beijing can rejoice!

The new store is named Beijing IKEA Xihongmen and is easier accessible than the Siyuanqiao location. It’s significantly larger, at 50,811 sqm, it is the second largest IKEA in the world, after the flagship in Stockholm, Sweden. It’s different from the store in Siyuanqiao. IKEA recognized that there are more families with children living in South Beijing, so they’ve focused on catering to those customers by designing 60 different display rooms that reflect the residential living layouts and habits of people in the south part of the city. The new store will attract more customers who enjoy spending an entire day trying out all products and eating IKEA’s famous Swedish meatballs at the cafe and restaurant.

Convenient transport has been kept in mind in designing the new IKEA store. It’s located just 100 meters from the subway, near Exit A of Xihongmen subway station of Line 4. For customers coming by car, there are 1,750 free parking spaces. With the opening of the new IKEA in Daxing, it should help alleviate crowds at the Siyuanqiao store and give Beijingers in the south a more accessible option.
