Where to See the Giant Yellow Rubber Duck

2013-09-09

If you’ve been keeping up with the news lately, the famous giant yellow “rubber ducky” is now in Beijing. The first authentic version of the installation—which has made appearances from Australia to South America since 2007—will be displayed at the Beijing International Garden Expo in Fengtai district before it’s moved to be displayed atthe Summer Palace.

The duck attracted huge attention earlier this year when it was displayed in Hong Kong’s Victoria’s Harbor and has attracted unauthorized imitations in other parts of China like Hangzhou and Tianjin. Dutch artist Florentijin Hofman even increased the size of Beijing’s duck to 18 meters high, up from 16.5 meters in Hong Kong.

It is currently on display at the Beijing International Garden Expo, 256 hectares in area, with an entrance fee of 100 RMB. Visitors who come will be able to take in the Garden Expo that opens until Nov. 18 before the duck relocates to the Summer Palace in a few weeks. If the high entrance fee or trek out to the Garden Expo deters you, wait a few weeks when you can see it in the picturesque Summer Palace for a more reasonable 30 RMB.
