Oden is a classic Japanese soup that pairs a simple broth with a variety of add-ins such as vegetables, tofu and egg. Although it is a classic Japanese dish, it can also be found in Beijing. here are some delicate oden recommended in Beijing.
Geba Geba
The laid-back atmosphere of this pub-style Japanese restaurant is a perfect match for a steaming bowl of oden. This version (RMB62) comes bubbling with the usual mix of daikon, deep-fried tofu, egg, konnyaku threads and processed fish cakes, but Geba Geba also tosses in chicken wings, an unconventional though welcome addition. The dashi-based broth is extremely flavorful, and soaks through the daikon and tofu, infusing the entire dish with an addictively savory taste. While the price is much higher than anywhere else in Beijing, we think it’s totally justified by the sheer quality of ingredients.
