2013-03-26

While eating in pitch-black darkness will you accidentally put food in your nose?

Or will you take advantage of the darkness to steal a tasty morsel from your neighbor’s plate?

Don’t feel so clever, they may be stealing your food too!

Do you want to experience the novelty and excitement of dining in the dark?

If so, Beijing’s Xidan has a truly “dark” restaurant…

Try it out if you’re brave enough!

The Trojan Fairytale Restaurant is the only “dark” restaurant in Beijing. Close your eyes, open your mind, and experience that indescribable wonder of darkness. The restaurant’s creative source : the world's first dark restaurant opened in 1999 in Zurich, Switzerland. That restaurant opened with the purpose of helping blind charities, then gradually evolved into a famous tourist restaurant in Europe.

Open yourself up and appreciate the wonderful darkness. The Trojan Fairytale Restaurant takes its name from the famous, ancient legend, encouraging diners to adopt the same spirit as the brave, ancient Greek warriors hidden in the huge and dark Trojan belly. It’s the beginning of a mysterious, wonderful food journey. At the entrance of the restaurant a huge mural of rich colors welcomes guests. A friend of the owner created it for the restaurant.

Under the faint light of the moon and stars, night roses bloom on tables, creating a really romantic environment. In the dark areas however, it’s pitch black-- you can’t see your hand in front of your face.

In the dark food tastes even better than usual, as your other senses will be heightened. As a restaurant, the final analysis always comes down to the quality of the food. Trojan Fairytale Dark Restaurant’s food is cooked for you personally by an experienced senior chef, and features nutritionally balanced meals. You can enjoy your food, knowing it’s good for you as well as tasty.

When you mix various colors, you get black. Similarly, by mixing a bit of every emotion, you get the inclusive, mysterious black restaurant.

Average Price/Person:220 RMB

Recommended Dishes:Trojan veal

Using natural ingredients, Trojan serves mostly Western and Japanese food. The American Angus steak, vegetable salad, marble cheesecake and flower and fruit tea set-meal is very popular. The heaviest food on the menu is undoubtedly the steak. As a waiter moves through the darkness, the aroma of the meat becomes stronger, and you can hear the steak’s appealing sizzling sound approaching. After feeling around for your cutlery (or just deciding to use your hands) that first sightless bite makes it all worth it.
