Yang Liping is a legendary Chinese dancer. While growing up in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, she was recruited into the Xishuangbanna song-and-dance troupe by virtue of her talent for dancing in 1971. It is beyond imagination that her art life can last for 40 years in dancing circle, which is deeply partial to youngsters.
Even more surprisingly, she has danced Yunnan folk dances all over China, even in the world.Yan Liping was exposed to Bai dance, Dai dance and many other Yunnan folk dances when she was young. "
All my inspirations come from the nature and life. Dancing is a part of we Bai people's life, so we enjoy expressing our yearning and deep love for the nature and a wonderful life through dancing. Besides me, Bai people universally have a special talent for dance." She said.
On Oct.7, 1990, dressed as a peacock princess, Yang Liping perfectly performed Spirit of Peacock in the grand closing ceremony of the Eleventh Asian Games, which was the first time she demonstrated the charm of Yunnan folk dances on the international stage.

Afterwards she held a series of dancing shows in the Philippines, Singapore, Russia, and Canada. However, since her debut in the Beijing Asian Games, Yang got stuck for a long time. She could not create another excellent work like Spirit of Peacock.
So she tried films and TV series. She starred in Warrior Lanling in 1995, and played Mei Chaofeng in The Legend of The Condor Heroes. And yet, she found these were still not what she wanted.
Thus, she traveled to Ganzi and Liangshan in Sichuan Province, and went to Tibet twice to seek for inspirations. She stayed in Tianfeng Folk Culture Studio for several months, learned from folk dances and came back to her spiritual hometown. The spiritual trip made her rebirth like a phoenix.
Yang Liping made another significant stride forward eventually in 2003. She directed and performed Dynamic Yunnan. In 2004, Dynamic Yunnan won five "Lotus Awards", the highest prize for Chinese professional dances.
