Since its opening earlier this year, the Sun Dong An Plaza has become one of the busiest shopping centers in Beijing. The spaces are leased by tenants and includes an internationally known department store and the first eight-screen cineplex in Beijing.

Several new tenants have signed leases and some existing tenants have expanded their spaces. Negotiations are also under way with a number of multinational and mainland enterprises. With its prime location, Sun Dong An Plaza enjoys spectacular views of the city. David Leung, General Manager of the Group's China Department, said Wangfujing is the busiest commercial district in Beijing, and a government priority for redevelopment.

Sun Dong An Plaza is at Wangfujing's core, and the first major redevelopment there to open for business. To take full advantage of its early presence in this high-growth area, the Group will hold this project as a long term investment. There are some unique factors that can be attributed to the growing prescence of visitors to the Sun Dong’an Market.

A Unique architectural Design

In 1992, the municipal government of Beijing approved plans to redevelop Wangfujing into a commercial hub comparable to the Champs-Elysees in Paris, and in 1993, the Group began redeveloping the Dong An Market. Sun Dong An Plaza's unique design won first prize in the "Exhibition on the Capital Architectural Design Review 1994" in Beijing, and since its opening, its spectacular design and comprehensive facilities have made it a new Beijing landmark.

Many multinational tenants

Sun Dong An Plaza has nearly 3,000 feet of frontage on Wangfujing Street. This superior location and its multi-functional design combined traditional Chinese and modern Western architecture which have encouraged many multinational companies to set up their base in the complex to develop business in China.

All of the 1.3 million square-foot shopping centre was leased before opening, and almost all stores are now open. Nearly 60% of the 430,000 square feet of office space has been taken up by both multinationals and large Chinese companies. Some companies are expanding their area to keep pace with new business, and negotiations are under way with other large enterprises. Promotional events attract large crowds to the shopping centre, encouraging people to stay longer and spend more.
