While Dashanzi’s 798 Art District is most well known for its eclectic collection of art galleries, art centers and coffee shops, it is also becoming a place for innovative furniture and fashion designers to sell their wares to an audience that appreciates quality and creativity. The following are some of the area’s standout stores.

UCCA Store

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) is the most dynamic art center in Beijing's 798 Art District. Since 2007, its UCCA store has been a small temple for vanguard design within the gallery. The original store, now UCCA @ ART.BOOK, is still offering a glut of Chinese art and creativity, with a selection of limited-edition artworks—the fruit of the collaboration between UCCA and more than 40 artists—and a vast selection of art and design books.

Meeting the demands of a growing community of design lovers, UCCA has recently launched a new 300-square-meter space in 798, the UCCAstore @ Design. Floor-to-ceiling windows and light wood encase an interior filled with warm light from the marvelous bone lamps by Xie Dong. Overall the space jumps to the forefront of cutting-edge design without becoming ostentatious.

The work of Taiwanese Good Studio,= the shop was designed under the theme "Windows." Throughout the store, a variety of different frames hung on the walls and ceiling encourages visitors "to look out onto a new world." The frames are meant to open people up to other ways thinking and to the artist's genius which—while leading his audience through his world of imagination—crystallizes his creative process in an object of beauty. Besides offering an aesthetic experience for visitors, the store aims to incubate new thoughts and ideas.

From collaborating with 10 Chinese designers and developing limited-edition collections, UCCA store now showcases the work of 60 of the finest creative in China—pieces of art, fashion, jewelry, furniture and also colorful fixed gear bikes.

Located right next to the entrance to the exhibits, the partnership store for the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art is known for its focus on Chinese designers and promotions with center events. Whimsical tea cups (RMB 132) by renowned artist Xie Dong and medicinal dolls by Missred (RMB 980) are some of the unique gifts found here. Serious art collectors can head to the backroom, where high-quality reproductions of famous Chinese contemporary paintings and photographs can be purchased.

UCCA @ DESIGN Opening Time: Tuesday through Sunday, 10am-6pm Address: Dashanzi Art District, 4 Jiuxianqiao Lu, Chaoyang District, Beijing, China 100015
