Modern Dance Vertical Road

Modern Dance Vertical Road

2012-04-27

Vertical Road is the contemplation on the journey of human soul from earth to heaven, which is intended to explore people’s earthly nature and causality of behaviors, and gradually enjoys the elegance from pain. This work is inspired by a poem created by Rumi, a famous Persian poet and philosopher in the 13th century:

I'm dead and change from the ore into the vegetable and grain;

As fruit and vegetable, I die and turn into animal.

As animal, I die and turn into a man.

So, why do I fear the nothingness after death?

The next time, I will die.

And then I will grow wings like an angel.

I will soar higher than angels.

The afterlife you can not imagine

That is me.

Vertical Road converges outstanding dancers from Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Innovative stage lighting effects and fresh and brisk soundtrack make this work unique. Adhering to Aram Khan’s constant pursuit of art, this work strives to explore the interaction between different cultures and dance innovation.
