Located in Shidu,ZhangfangTownship, Fangshan District,Beijing, Shidu Scenic Area is 96 kilometers away from the city. It has the largest and most typical Karst (eroded limestone) valleys in northChinaand is the closest scenic spot of its kind toBeijing. Renowned for its green mountains and rivers and theHundred-MileArtGallery, it has twelve geological features such as the Flying Rock, the Chinese Character Buddha inDragonMountain, the Rock in a Rock, and more. TheJumaRiverwinds its way across the mountains like a jade belt. The landscape here combines the majesty of northern greatness with the grace of southern refinedness. Shidu Scenic Area was designated as one of the Sixteen New Scenic Spots inBeijingin 1986, one of the first batch of scenic areas inBeijingMunicipality’s National AAA Tourist Attractions featured in 1999, and it was approved as aNationalGeologicalParkin 2004. There are such scenic spots asJumaGarden,GushanMountainVillage, Pudu Mountain Villa, theCemeteryofMartyrsin Ping Xi, theFairy-DwellingCave,DonghuValley,XihuValley, and more, in this area. Tourists may also enjoy recreational programs such as bungee jumping, cliff parachuting, roping, rock climbing, gliding, drifting, paddle boating, kayaking, surfing, motor boating, sand beach bathing, horse riding, and more!
