About Vienna Classic Symphony Orchestra of Austria
The Vienna Classic Symphony Orchestra of Austria was founded in 2001, and Austria’s master conductors Svetoslav Borisov and Tommy Oskanian began to jointly steer the orchestra in 2009.It is headquartered in the downtown of Vienna as Europe’s cultural capital and a hub where various cultures in Europe converge in Austria, and it has been undertaking certain significant official performance events since its establishment- while obtaining a lot of subsidies from the Austrian governmental departments. Thus, both the band and the chorus have become an unprecedented and representative new force in Austria. Now, all the members are young and middle-aged musicians from Germany and Austria who have strong artistic skills and the orchestra is a perennial band partner of Vienna Opera House currently. In addition, the orchestra’s Director and conductor Svetoslav Borisov was awarded a “Master” honorary title by Vienna Opera House and hence, the orchestra enjoys great reputations in Europe.
While sticking to its tradition, the orchestra expanded itself to a three-pipe instrumentation orchestra with over 90 members. In addition to presenting concerts, they are also committed to opera cooperation between Austria and Hungary when staging works by such composers as Straus. Each piece of music they perform brims with strong Austrian characteristics, annotating brisk, brilliant and exquisite classical and post-Romantic era works with an enthusiastic and lively style. To bring popular music into the elegant concert hall and deliver those music works which had been forgotten for over a hundreds of years in Vienna Concert Hall and all over the world is the greatest contribution of the orchestra. “Documentary of the 200th Anniversary for Franz Schubert” recorded by the orchestra was commented as the best work by critics.
The orchestra’s performance style is a dexterously organic combination of sophisticated classical techniques and enthusiastic and unconstrained folk music, which is highlighted especially when playing a waltz and polka by Strauss. It seems that the era when Strauss was conducting and leading the instrument ensemble at salon balls comes back again. Just as what experts have said,” Strauss’ works are not strictly classical symphonies but folk dance music and a representative for Vienna’s popular folk music.” In fact, the orchestra’s performance style is also a representative of music of such a kind.
In recent years, the orchestra arranges its concerts and opera music in accordance with the audience’ requirements and therefore has become a most popular orchestra that is highly hailed by the audience. Its repertoire includes over 300 pieces of music ranging from Barock music to modern ones. It also partnersVienna State Opera to launch concerts quarterly at Vienna Concert Hall and accepts invitations from governments of different countries to show up at famous concert halls across the world during music festivals. A host of concerts by the orchestra have been recorded and broadcasted by Austria's national radio service and they are also highly admired and favored by the entire European music field.
The 2011Chinese New Year Concert is expected to become a new chapter of the orchestra’s New Year concerts. The orchestra hopes to blend China’s classic elements and some famous Vienna State Opera works while maintaining its original style under the will of Chief Conductor and Music Director Svetoslav Borisov in the upcoming performance, presenting a high-level music feast and making the entire 2011 Chinese New Year concert more enjoyable.
