The First Store Economy is Exploding in Beijing

FILA’s first global new concept store landed in Wangfujing, Xiaopeng Auto’s first national flagship store for experience settled in Sanlitun, Royal Copenhagen’s first boutique store in North China debuted in China World Shopping Mall... Since this year, the economy of Beijing’s first store continues to increase. According to data from Site of China, a total of 434 first stores (including flagship stores) opened in Beijing in the first half of the year, exceeding the number of last year by nearly 250 stores, showing an explosive growth trend. With the opening of Beijing Universal Holiday Resort in the second half of the year, a large number of high-quality first stores are expected to debut in Beijing.

According to data, the number of first physical stores in Beijing in the first half of this year has exceeded twice the number of the whole year last year, and business in Beijing is in full recovery. From the type of the first stores, among the 434 first stores, there are 2 global first stores, 3 Asian first stores, 32 China (Mainland) first stores and 397 Beijing first stores. International brands such as FILA from Italy, Dream Theater of Manchester United from China and Britain, SATELLITE from France and Leica from Germany have launched global flagship stores or new concept stores in Beijing.

In terms of the country of the brand, among the 434 first stores, 360 are Chinese brands, accounting for about 83%; 74 are international brands, accounting for nearly 17%. Among the international brands, France, Italy and Japan are in the leading place. In terms of business distribution, the number of restaurants tops the list, with 202 stores, accounting for 46% of the total; the retail stores are in the second place, with 134 stores, accounting for 31% of the total; there is also one store which is a combination of restaurant and retail. There are 43 stores for leisure and entertainment, 36 stores for life service and 18 stores for children training, accounting for a total of 22%. Overall, the two major business modes of food and beverage and retail together accounted for nearly 80%, while entertainment, lifestyle services and children’s businesses together accounted for about 22%.

From the perspective of the regions, Chaoyang District has 227 first stores, accounting for 52%, ranking the first among all districts; Dongcheng District and Haidian District follow with 70 and 41 stores respectively; Xicheng District and Fengtai District are in the third tier, with 24 and 21 stores respectively. Daxing District has 17 first stores, ranking first among the new urban areas.

From the distribution of business districts, 87 first stores are located in Sanlitun and 49 first stores are located in CBD International Mansion, which accounts for 30% of the first stores in Beijing in the first half of the year. CBD International Mansion attracts 27 first stores of international brands, making it most international. Wangfujing, Changying and Shichahai shopping districts each attract 27, 22 and 20 first-time stores. In addition, with the official operation of shopping centers such as Xidan Geng Xinchang, Initiate Longhu Beijing Lize Tianjie and Beijing Beitou Aegean Shopping Park, a series of domestic and foreign original brands and young trendy brands have debuted continuously. Emerging new brands and traditional brands stimulate consumption with unique forms such as collection stores, theme stores, limited-time stores and concept stores.

Beijing Universal Holiday Resort will open soon which is expected to accelerate the first-time stores in Beijing. In addition, there are at least two shopping centers that will open in Beijing in the second half of the year, which will release the vitality of first-time stores constantly. The ARTPARK IMIX Park in the Tongzhou district will open at the end of the year and the Beijing Jin’an Huanyu Hui in Shijingshan District will open soon.

Meanwhile, the primary trading area continues upgrading its brands. It is expected that the first store in Beijing will continue to be active in the second half of the year.
