Buddhist temple exemplifies China's artistic treasure, and is a symbol of Chinese building, history and culture. Temple is not just a place of religious, but also demonstrate Chinese history and culture. In this golden autumn season, when you look for historical sites in Beijing, you must visit the ancient temples. Here are some of the oldest temples in Beijing recommended for you.

Hongluo Temple

Hongluo Temple is located in Hongluo Mountain in the north of Huairou County, Beijing, about 10 km away from the county. The temple was first built in the fourth year of Yonghe's Reign (348 years), with a history of more than 1,600 years.

There is a "Pearl Spring" at the foot of the mountain where the temple is located. According to legend, there are two huge red snails in the depths of the spring water. The snails spit out red flames every time the sun goes down to the west. Therefore, the mountain is named "Hongluo (red snail) Mountain" and the temple is commonly known as "Hongluo (red snail) Temple".

Longquan Temple

Longquan Temple is also referred to as Longquan Monastery. It is a Chinese Buddhist monastery located in Beijing. It was originally established in Liao dynasty, and there are hundreds of monks currently in the Temple, many of whom are very well-educated. What makes Longquan Monastery special among all temples in China is that it is also notable for robot designing and its chatbot Robot Monk Xian'er.

Today's Longquan Temple has devoted itself to developing new methods to combine Buddhist traditions with modern culture. This includes making its values integrated and useful to mainstream society and promoting traditional Chinese culture across the world.

Dajue Temple

With lush, towering ancient cypresses grow in the Dajue Temple, the Magnolia and gingko trees planted here are the most famous in Beijing. The temple is home to 160 ancient trees, including 1,000-year-old gingko trees, 300-year-old Magnolia trees, ancient sala trees, pine and cypress trees.

Tanzhe Temple

Tanzhe Temple (Temple of Pool and Zhe Tree) is a Buddhist temple situated in the Western Hills, a mountainous area in western Beijing. Built in the Jin Dynasty (265–420), it has an age of around 1,700 years, and has always been one of the most important temples in China.

Tanzhe Temple is one of the oldest temples in Beijing. The area of the entire temple is 100 mu (6.8 hectares), and its arrangement of halls is akin to that found in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
