Co-organized by the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau, Beijing Sports Federation, and The Universal Chinese Sport Association, Jinhai Lake International Dragon Boat Race 2015 were held at Jinhai Lake Aquatic Sports Center June 13-14.
As a warm-up for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival on June 20, 21 teams from Beijing and 18 foreign teams from Australia, Iran, and Russia participated in the race. Starring decorated boats with intricate designs, the deafening sound of gongs and drums, and the foam of breaking waves, the competition is a combination of fun and a storied culture.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also often known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional and statutory holiday originating in China. The festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of China’s traditional lunar calendar. Three of the most widespread activities for Duanwu Festival are eating zongzi, drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boats.
