As a 4A National Geopark, Beijing Shidu Scenic Area is famous for its Karst Geomorphology.
Shidu Scenic Area is located in the southwest of Fangshan District, Beijing, which has the only large-scale karst landscape in northern China. On September 17, 2006, UNESCO officially approved the Fangshan World Geopark in China and awarded it a license. Since then, Beijing has added one scientific-type world geopark featured in natural scenery, contributing to the city as the first capital city which contains a World Geopark around the world. Inside the scenic area, there are mainly eight scenic spots, and among them Shidu Scenic Area is undoubtedly the most welcoming one. The name Shidu comes from the history that in this valley there were totally ten ferries crossing Juma River.
