Lugou Bridge
Lugou Bridge is the oldest existing stone arch bridge in Beijing. On July 7, 1937, Japanese imperialism launched an all-around war of aggression against China here. The Chinese garrison in Wanping City rose up to resist, known as the Lugou Bridge Incident (also known as the July 7 Incident). The Chinese Anti-Japanese army fired the first shot of the all-around Anti-Japanese war at Lugou Bridge. The stone lions of Lugou Bridge have different postures. There are male and female lions. The female ones play with the little lion, and the male ones play with the hydrangea. Some big lions are carved with many small lions on its back. The smallest is only a few centimeters long. Some only show half their heads and one mouth. Therefore, there has been a saying that "there are countless lions in Lugou Bridge" for a long time. According to statistics, there are 281 large stone lions and 211 small stone lions on the pillar, 492 stone lions in total on the bridge. At the east end of the bridge, there are stone lions with railings on their back, one on the left and one on the right.
Wanping City
Lugou Bridge in the west of Wanping City is the only channel for Beijingers to enter and exit the Inner Mongolia Plateau and go south to the Central Plains. Because of its special geographical location, Wanping City has also become a necessary place for business travel from south to north. Wanping City is the only acropolis with a complete flygate in North China. It is 640 meters long from east to west and 320 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of 208000 square meters. In the 11th year of Chongzhen in the late Ming Dynasty (1638), it was built in three years. It was originally a military camp, and then gradually commercial houses moved here. It was called Gongbei City and Gongji City in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
