2021-11-10

Nuanquan Ancient Town, founded in the Yuan Dynasty, is located in the west of Yuxian County, Hebei Province, 12km away from Yuxian County in the east and Guangling County in Shanxi in the west. The town has 16 villages, covering an area of about 57.3 square kilometers. It is an ancient Northern town blending nomadic culture and agricultural culture.

Over the past 600 years, it has preserved complete ancient houses built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and witnessed the development of commerce and trade here in history. The layout of the whole ancient village is ingenious and diverse.

As China’s famous historical and cultural town, Nuanquan Town is known for its spring water, market, ancient building and folk culture. It is alleged that the name of Nuanquan stemmed from its spring water. The two sources of the water are Fengyuan Pond in the town center and Foujing in front of Huayan Temple. Water temperature in both of the sources is 16℃ throughout the year, boding the stability and peace of the town.

There are ancient buildings everywhere in Nuanquan Ancient Town, and temples are all over the town. Although it has experienced hundreds of years of vicissitudes, its strong and thick woods and stones, beautiful and fine carvings, simple and elegant color paintings still show the prosperity and style of that year. The town came to its peak in development in Ming and Qing Dynasty, whilst its enduring charm never lost, still attracting visitors for recreation.
