Pigeon Nest Park

2021-08-13

Pigeon Nest Park is located at the northeast corner of Beidaihe beach. There is a huge rock about 18 meters high on the east side of the sea. The stone is more than 2.5 billion years old and was formed in the Neo-archean period by metamorphic granite and quartz veins invasion.

But because of the long period of weathering, the old mixed granite has been weathered away, while the hard quartz veins stand tall. Due to the the deep extrusion by fracture from north in the east-west direction, the rock has broken and fractured. In the past, there were often seagulls living on it, and the local people used to call the seagulls "sea pigeons", so we call it "pigeon nest".

Pigeon Nest is the best place to watch the sunrise at sea, where you can often see the scenery of "Red Sea Bathing The Day". At the same time, it is also a holy place to watch birds, known as the "mecca of bird watching". Every year, there are many Chinese and foreign bird lovers come here to watch birds.

It also overlooks the Beidaihe River, where Chairman Mao Zedong wrote an immortal poem in the summer of 1954.

When the tide goes down, you can also look for small fish and shrimp on the beach of Pigeon Nest Park. In addition, there are more than 600 pigeons in the park, which can be played and taken photos. Soft sand beach, warm sunshine, salty sea breeze, playing with pigeons make you feel very comfortable.
