Huguosi Snack Street is a traditional snack street with the history of more than 300 years and offers over 80 kinds of Beijing snacks. It is one of the most famous and popular snack streets in Beijing. Huguosi Snack Street originates from the ancient tradition of the Huguosi Temple fair during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), which was held on the 8th day in each month of Chinese lunar calendar. During the temple fair, there were various Beijing-flavor snacks which have been passed down generation by generation. Most Huguosi snacks are visually appealing and sweet in flavor and are considered as representative Beijing snacks. In 1956, the Beijing Municipal Government founded the Huguosi Snack Bar, and invited many traditional snacks makers to work there. Now it has developed into one of Beijing’s largest chain store serving traditional and authentic Beijing snacks.
