Flying a kite in spring

2021-02-20

Kite flying is one of the most popular traditional sports in China. Kite, called Feng Zheng in Chinese, originated in China and has been praised as the forerunner of modern aircrafts. Its history can be traced back to more than 2000 years ago. Legend has it that, the first Chinese kites were made of wood and called Muyuan (wooden kites) by the famous architect and carpenter Lu Ban during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476BC); after the invention of paper, kites began to be made of this new material called Zhiyuan (paper kites).

Spring is the best season for kite-flying. It is a traditional folk activity, and has history of more than 2,000 years. It can help to build one's health, and prevent and cure diseases. It also has the effect of promoting blood circulation and speeding up metabolism. A breath of fresh air outside can discharge the foul smell accumulated in winter. Therefore, kite-flying is recommended by many Chinese health experts.

Do you still remember the excitement when you saw your kite flying up high in the sky? Now you can re-experience that joy again. The spring wind in Beijing provides a perfect opportunity to fly a kite, especially in the Olympic Forest Park. Built originally for the 2008 Olympic Games, now it has become an outdoor aerobic bar for Beijing citizens.

There are plenty of places for kite flying in Beijing. You can choose a kite with your favorite pattern, and then get ready to run with the wind.
