Shangzhai Culture Exhibition Hall is the first theme hall named after archaeological culture as well as the first neolithic culture exhibition hall in Beijing. Built in 1987, it is located in Jinhai Lake Scenic Area in Pingguo District.

It covers an area of 8,500 square meters, with construction area of 1,284 square meters and exhibition area of 907 square meters. Imitating the shape of shelter of Neolithic Age, the hall is divided into two floors. The first floor mainly displays the archeology and research result of Shangzhai culture and its surrounding environment. 118 representative stone implements mainly reflect local folk living and the masses’ culture via clothes, food, lodging customs as well as festivals and economic production.

The second floor is the temporary exhibition hall. Vairous exhibitions have been displayed in this floor as “Pinggu Cultural Relics Exhibition”, “Historical Figures Show of Pinggu Area”, “Painting and Calligraphy and Photography Exhibition” and “Pinggu Peculiar Stone Exhibition” etc. It has reflected the living and working conditions of Pinggu people from Shang and Zhou Period to Ming and Qing Dynasty.
