Prince Gong's Mansion: The largest residence in the Qing Dynasty

Prince Gong's Mansion is one of the most exquisite and best-preserved imperial mansions in Beijing, consisting of siheyuan-style buildings and a 28,000㎡ large garden. It is a comprehensive public cultural institution integrating the functions of cultural relics protection, tourism opening, museum construction, cultural space creation and cultural industry development.

Architecture

There are many famous attractions in the Prince Gong’s Mansion, from which the Western-style Gate, the Grand Theatre Tower, the Back Screen Buildings are three major attractions of the Prince Gong's Mansion.

1.The Western-style Gate

The Western-style Gate is the main gate of the garden,which is also the only Western-style building in the garden, reflecting the owner's desire to save the Qing Dynasty by learning Western culture and technology.

2.the Grand Theatre Tower

Built during the Tongzhi period (1862-1874), the Grand Theatre Tower of the Prince Gong’s Mansion was a place for the Prince Gong and his family and friends to watch opera. It is the only fully enclosed opera house that exists in China.

3.the Back Screen Buildings

The Back Screen Building is located at the junction of the residence and the garden, with 111 houses in a row, reaching more than 180 meters long. It is the longest building among the royal buildings in China, which is described as "99 and a half houses".

Exhibitions

1.Permanent Exhibitions

The permanent exhibitions include the Qing Dynasty Royal Culture Exhibition, the History of the Gong Palace Exhibition, the History of the Gong Palace Museum Exhibition, the Dream of the Red Chamber and the Gong Palace, the Religious Life of the Gong Palace Exhibition, the Restoration of the Gong Palace, and the Zhou Ruchang Memorial Hall.

2.Themed Exhibitions

The thematic exhibitions currently on display include a special exhibition on the 10th anniversary of the reopening of the Begonia Art Collection in the Princess Kung's Mansion, an exhibition of Dalian shell carvings from the intangible cultural heritage of Liaoning Province, and an exhibition of fan artworks from the collection of the Princess Kung's Mansion.
