Ceramic pavilion - The Palace Museum

After two years, the Palace Museum's Ceramics Hall reopened to visitors in the Hall of Martial Valor on May 1st, 2021. Moving from the Hall of Mandarin to the Hall of Martial Valor, the new Ceramic Hall innovates in the aspects of exhibition space, content and theme design, the number of exhibits, as well as the integration of exhibition form and ancient architecture, so as to give the audience a new visual experience and feel the extensive and profound charm of Chinese ceramic culture.

Highlights of Ceramic Pavilion

With the main hall of the Hall of Martials of Valor, the "Gong" Corner and the Hall of JingSi as the main exhibition hall, the Ceramics Hall displays the development process of Chinese ceramics from the Neolithic Age to the Republic of China in 10 themes according to the order of times. And set up an independent showcase to highlight the "various glaze color bottles" and other large volumes of exhibits. An exhibition space is set up at the entrance of the main hall of the Hall of Martial Valor. The appearance adopts the ancient architectural elements of the Forbidden City. The exhibits will be changed from time to time.

According to their functions, the east and west side halls of the Hall of Martial Valor exhibit 6 themes, such as wedding, sacrifice, dining, furnishings and rewards, longevity, and religious porcelain. The Yude Hall in the northwest corner of the courtyard is dedicated to displaying the Imperial Palace Museum's collection of porcelain for export. In addition, the "Specimens Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Ceramic Kiln Sites" and "Observation Room of Ancient Ceramic Data", which were originally set up in the West Wing Hall of Yanxi Palace, will be moved to the north value room of the East Wing Hall and the West Wing Hall of Marble Valor respectively, making the Hall of Marble Valor a permanent museum in the Forbidden City where different types of ceramic relics are displayed.

Each piece in the new Ceramic Pavilion has a QR code. Visitors will enter the "Ceramic Pavilion of the Palace Museum" mini-program to learn about the detailed introduction of cultural relics. For their favorite cultural relics "thumb up", put them into the "Favorites" folder, and write down their own experiences and moves in the "Notes" to share with friends.

The Palace Museum has also digitized 20 pieces in the Ceramic Pavilion with ultra-high precision, allowing visitors to zoom in, zoom out and turn over on a touch screen to feel the desire to "hold" the pieces in their hands.

To coincide with the newly opened Palace Museum Ceramic Pavilion in the Hall of Martial Valor, the Palace Museum Publishing House has released "Palace Museum Ceramic Pavilion" with the exhibition catalog.
