Laiyuan County is located in the northwest of Baoding District, Hebei Province, at the northern end of Taihang Mountain. Laiyuan means the source of Laishui River in Chinese. Laiyuan County has a long history of more than 2,000 years since the establishment of “county” in the Han Dynasty. In the long history, the industrious and brave Laiyuan people have written a glorious chapter. During the period of War of Resistance against Japan, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the people of Laiyuan made great contributions to protecting and defending the country, especially in the Battle of Huangtuling, where the Japanese Lieutenant General Abe Norihide was killed, and it has become one of the brilliant battles in the history of China's anti-Japanese war. The dedication story of Wang Erxiao, an anti-Japanese hero in Laiyuan County, has been widely circulated and well-known to Chinese people. Dr Bethune, a Canadian international friend, came to China to help China's War of Resistance against Japan, and died at his post. The Sunjiazhuang Temple in Laiyuan County, where he operated on the wounded, is still telling Bethune's internationalist spirit of saving lives.

Laiyuan people's heroic struggle has been commended by higher authorities for many times, and was twice named as "Model County for Struggle against the Enemy" by Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region Government in 1938 and 1943. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Laiyuan, as an old revolutionary base, supported the national liberation war with full enthusiasm, abundant manpower and material resources.

Shipu Canyon (Ten Waterfalls Canyon)

Laiyuan Shipu Canyon (Ten Waterfalls Canyon) is located in the south of Laiyuan County, Baoding City, Hebei Province. Shipu Canyon, with mountains, valleys, streams, and waterfalls as its main landscape, is a mountain valley at the western foot of Baishi Mountain, with granite landform. Spring water gushes from the altitude of 1,400 meters, flowing among the canyon boulders, falling down as waterfalls, leaving ripples in pools, with more than ten waterfalls of different sizes, each with its own characteristics.

The mountains on both sides of the canyon are steep with strange rocks. The stream flows 4,000 meters, passing through the mountains and rocks. Ten waterfalls are stacked one after another with pools on the waterfalls. Feilong Waterfall has a drop of 48 meters and a width of 3 meters, like the upside-down Milky Way with thunderous sound. Shuanglong Waterfall falls in two steps, with a drop of 60 meters.

In the dry season, the water flow is fine and extraordinarily delicate; in the wet season, the silver curtain hangs high and the scenery is attractive. Cascading waterfalls and streams, set off by green and lush vegetation, are even more vibrant, making visitors linger and unwilling to leave. "Fish scale slope" is a joint of granite, which peels off in layers when weathered, and looks like fish scales. The stream in the valley overflows and is crystal clear and attractive.

Xianrenyu (Immortal Valley)

Xianrenyu (Immortal Valley), located in 17 km west of Laiyuan County, is a limestone landform grand canyon with two mountains standing on each side and one line leading through. In summer, the valley is full of wild flowers with unique environment and landscape, and sometimes clouds wind around. It is said to be a place where immortals practice in seclusion, so it is called Immortal Valley.

The canyon is deep and tortuous, with strange peaks and cliffs on both sides, rugged rocks, wide and narrow valleys, flowing water, pines and cypresses. The main landscapes are Immortal Caves, Thousands of Buddha Walls, Five Steps to the Sky, Bluestone Roadways, Holy Water Springs, Dragon Girls' Stone, Dengti (Climbing Ladder) Waterfall, and Dengti (Climbing Ladder) Temple, etc.

Xianrenyu consists of three valleys with a total length of 20 km, which are divided into two scenic areas: Xianrenyu (Immortal Valley) and Huluyu (Gourd Valley). In Xianrenyu, there are many caves, cliffs, and streams.

Huluyu (Gourd Valley) Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Xianrenyu Scenic Area, with more than 20 scenic spots, which are characterized by seclusion, elegance, beauty and strangeness. Dengti (Climbing Ladder) Temple, covering an area of five mu, stands in groups of steles, whose bells can be heard for more than 20 miles. Dengti (Climbing Ladder) Waterfall, is 20 meters high, and can be only passed via a wooden ladder that is 3 meters wide and 100 meters high. There are steep mountains, ancient cypresses, and magnificent landscapes.

Air Grassland

Air grassland is located in 28 km north of Laiyuan County, 180 km from Beijing in the northeast and 150 km from Baoding in the south, with alpine trough meadow, forest and grassland scenery as the main landscape. It is a grassland-type natural scenic tourist area. The meadow is long and narrow from east to west, wide from north to south, covering an area of more than 1,200 square kilometers.

When visitors step on the Air Grassland, they can walk or ride horses and enjoy the vastness of the prairie. In the midsummer night, tourists can also bring tents and quilts to camp on the grassland, taking the green grass as the mat and the milky way as the quilt, which is as beautiful and enjoyable as in the paradise.

Baishi Mountain Scenic Spot

Baishi Mountain is a world geological park and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Located in Fenglianggou Village, Baishishan Town, Laiyuan County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, it occupies the northernmost part of Taihang Mountain and is known as "the best of Taihang Mountain".

The vegetation coverage rate here is as high as 98%, and the content of negative oxygen ions is quite high, so it is a real "natural oxygen bar". The average temperature here is 21℃ in summer, so it is called the "natural air conditioner" and is one of the famous summer resorts in China.

Baishi Mountain has various landscapes, integrating peak forests, strange rocks, precipices, canyons, forests, clouds, and plank roads. It has the characteristics of strange, magnificent, dangerous, magical and beautiful mountain landscape, and is also known as "China's peculiar mountain".

Baishi Mountain has a unique marble peak forest landform in China, with many strange peaks and towering rocks with various forms, which makes people wonder at the extremely fine workmanship of nature.

The highest peak, Foguangding (Buddha’s Light Summit), is 2,096 meters above sea level. The mountain is huge and tall, with "three summits, six terraces, nine valleys and eighty-one peaks".
