Zhang Zhongjing (Born c.150CE - died c. 219) was a finest Chinese physician of the Eastern Han dynasty. He was well-known by his marvelous work Shang Han Za Bing Lun (Treatise on Febrile and Other Diseases) which made great contributions to traditional Chinese medicine. In his work, Zhang recorded influential information about typhoid and other fevers based on his previous researches and working experiences. Zhang described typhoid clearly and recommended a few potent drugs of treating it.

Besides closely observing the physical signs, symptoms, kind and course of the disease, Zhang recorded results obtained from drugs that he prescribed. Showing great dignity and responsibility of the medical profession, Zhang was referred to as the Chinese Hippocrates.
