01TCM Museum of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The TCM Museum of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was completed in September 1990. It is a professional museum with rich collections and systematic contents. It is divided into the Department of Medical History and the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There is a comprehensive exhibition hall for the history of TCM, with an exhibition area of about 1,500 square meters.
The Department of Medical History collects more than 1,000 pieces of medical relics and more than 200 kinds of good medical books from all generations. With Chinese culture as the background and the history of Chinese medicine as the main line, the exhibition hall of the history of Chinese medicine reproduces the achievements of the Chinese medicine including the medicine of ethnic minorities through the medical relics of various periods.
The Department of Chinese Medicine has a collection of more than 50,000 herbal specimens of over 2850 kinds.

The exhibits include a comprehensive exhibition hall for Chinese medicine and an exhibition window for medicinal animals. The comprehensive exhibition hall displays 600 kinds of commonly used Chinese medicines from plants, animals and minerals, nearly 2,000 specimens of Chinese medicines. Both original herbs and corresponding concocted tablets are displayed. There are also more than 300 kinds of peeled specimens of medicinal animals and macerated specimens of medicinal plants, waxed leaf specimens, embedding specimens and hundreds of color photographs of medicinal plants.

02 Chinese Medical History Museum of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Museum of Chinese Medical History is located in the courtyard of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is affiliated with the Institute of Chinese Medical History and Documentation of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. With its rich collections spanning a long time, it plays an important role in popularizing common knowledge, summarizing medical experience, and nurturing scientific and technological talents.
The collection of more than 2,000 pieces contains fine artifacts of Chinese medicine from the Neolithic period to modern times. It also systematically and comprehensively presents the history and achievements of the origin, formation and development of Chinese medicine. Both medical instruments from the ancient era, such as stone needles, stone axes and stone scythes, as well as manuscripts and topiaries of imperial medical books and good medical books, ceramics, bronze and jade Chinese medical and surgical items are exhibited here. A considerable number of ancient realistic portraits of famous doctors and ink scripts of famous doctors' manuscripts are also collections with academic research value.

03 Researcher Tu Youyou's Laboratory
In the first two stops, we have learned about the history and tradition of TCM culture. Then next, we will go to learn about the present and future of TCM.
Tu Youyou is a name that every Chinese person should remember and be proud of. As a famous Chinese pharmacologist, Tu Youyou was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Bovine Science or Medicine. She is also the recipient of the "The Medal of the Republic". Artemisinin is her precious gift to the world.
Researcher Tu Youyou's laboratory is located in the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1955, and is the earliest specialized national research institute for traditional Chinese medicine in China. Since 1983, it has been recognized as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine. Here you can learn about researcher Tu Youyou's advanced deeds and feel the "spirit of artemisinin". The laboratory is designed based on Tu Youyou's original office. It not only preserves the original work space, but also features a chronology of Tu Youyou's life.
In the 38-square-meter exhibition space, five major themes are displayed through pictures, documents, certificates and videos. Her arduous research on artemisinin is documented in a chronological manner.
Tu Youyou's team has taken inspiration from the classical documents of TCM, discovered artemisinin for the first time, and pioneered a new method of malaria treatment. Therefore, the team is a well-deserved national merit. She and her team have demonstrated the "spirit of artemisinin" and inspired young researchers to contribute to the development of TCM.
