Qing Emperors for a Day | 19:00 - 21:00 Pray & offer sacrifices

19:00 to 21:00 was the time for Qing emperors praying and offering sacrifices to ancestors and deities of the imperial cult.

Ritual activities were frequent in Qing imperial court. Emperors and empresses were loyal believers of religions, and there were plenty of sacrificial halls and sites separated among the Forbidden City. Besides daily pray and sacrifices, the imperial court held large-scale sacrificial ceremonies frequently which usually included offer respects and sacrifices to the Heaven, to deities and to ancestors.

Buddhism was the major religion enshrined and worshiped in Qing imperial court. It was recorded that there were around forty Buddhist temples among the palace. Worshiping Buddhism and believing in Buddhism, emperors of Qing Dynasty had profound knowledge of Buddhism. Emperors including Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong had all written a great number of works presenting their deep understanding of Buddhist studies and researches.
