Usually, the first thing of emperors at the morning was study. Emperors were diligent, especially several former emperors of Qing Dynasty who got up at 5:00 am every day. After they got up, they went directly to the study where they started the morning learning.

The Qing Dynasty acquired the reign through launching the war, so emperors of Qing Dynasty bore their ancestor's lessons in mind, practising swordsmanship, horsemanship and archery everyday before study. They learned Mongol, Manchu and Han languages, and read classic books and texts written by ancestors to learn methods of ruling the country. Emperors believed that ancestors' success was blessed by the God, so as long as they followed the way of ancestors, they would also be protected by the fortune. Learning ancestors' works and treated them as spiritual weapons became a compulsory lesson of Qing emperors.

Being keen on study was an outstanding characteristic of Qing emperors. Since they were young princes, they received well-designed cultivation and strict training. It is recorded that princes started to go to the study at the age of six and they were taught by teachers of the Imperial Academy, learning The Four Books and Five Classics, Records of Grand Historian and other classic texts and practising horsemanship and swordsmanship. According to records, Qing emperors such as Kangxi emperor was an encyclopedic scholar who was proficient in Han culture, western science, mathematics, astronomy, medicine and many other fields. There are dozens of studies separated among the Forbidden City.
