Song of the Red Scarf Square

Red Scarf, or Honglingjin, is the symbol of young pioneers in China. This 3,000-square-meter square lies in the west of the squares zone near the south gate of the park. Its centerpiece is a sculpture named ‘Song of the Red Scarf’. The sculpture consists of five radial steel columns topped by a glittering golden torch with a semicircle relief sculpture as the backdrop. It represents the vigor and vitality of the young people. The granite-paved ground shows a vivid picture of the national flag rising in the golden rays of the morning sun (an oft-used symbol of young people) and peace doves in the sky. On both sides of the square stand the sculptures of young revolutionary martyrs. They are surrounded by fine flowers and verdant grass, adding to the solemnity of the square.
