This place for the emperor to paint and store paintings, was built in 1757, during the Qianlong Period of the Qing Dynasty.  The name “Yanhua” originally referred to designs and paintings on buildings or cloth.  In this case, it refers to the beautiful picturesque scenery of the garden that can be enjoyed here.
