The Zhihua Music Temple was constructed in 1443, during the reign of Ming Emperor Ying Zong, as the family temple of Wang Zhen, a eunuch unduly trusted by the Emperor. Zhihua Music Temple is the largest group of original wooden structures dating from the Ming Dynasty in downtown Beijing. The temple is hidden in the hutongs of Beijing and hardly to find.
Every day Buddhists are playing several times a day music. The Zhihua Temple music has been handed down according to very strict Buddhist standards. Today's Buddhist musicians are the 27th generation in a continuous line.
Zhihua Music Temple was included in the first group of national intangible heritages in June 2006.
