Centuries-old paper cutting from Shanxi on display

2019-04-19

Traditional paper cutting craft varies from place to place in China; and in Jingle county, Shanxi province, this folk art on paper which has been passed down for centuries is known for depicting subjects in an unsophisticated style and transmitting a simple, primitive touch.

More than 100 paper cutting pieces by Jingle artisans, dated to the early 20th century, are on display through April 20 at the Prince Kung's Mansion in Beijing.

The exhibition also celebrates the joint efforts by artisans and researchers of traditional crafts to assemble and categorize patterns found on Jingle's paper cutting works.

The exhibition will further travel to other cities including Fuzhou, Fujian province and Xi'an, Shaanxi province.
