Visit Fragrant Hills Park in Autumn

2020-10-19

The Fragrant Hills Park is absolutely the most prestigious scenic spot in Beijing to enjoy autumn scenery. Colored-leaf trees here boast more than 30 varieties including smoke trees, acer truncatum and trident maple. Among them, smoke trees are the best representative of Fragrant Hills, with the longest history of planting dating back to the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. They have gradually developed into a forest with 94,000 plants after over 200 years of plantation. When autumn falls, fiery red leaves of these trees would blanket the entire mountain and turn dark purple when the frost appears.

In the small pavilion on the summit, all the hills are colored in bright red, pink, scarlet, and carmine with distinct layers. With the autumn wind blowing, the leaves resemblered clouds and waves that topple the hills. Some pines and cypresses are interspersed here and there, making the forest red and green, splendid and gorgeous.
