2018-07-17

Date: July 29 - 7:30 pm

Venue: National Centre for the Performing Arts

The National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America is an American youth orchestra organized by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. It was established in 2012, and its first concert tour took place in the summer of 2013. Each summer, following an application and audition process, about 120 musicians aged between 16 and 19 attend a two-week residency at Purchase College, New York, followed by a national or international tour. The 106 musicians of the NYO-USA make a return appearance at China's National Centre for the Performing Arts after the orchestra's acclaimed Beijing debut in 2015. Michael Tilson Thomas leads a program that showcases his mastery of a wide range of repertoire, dedication to mentoring young talent, and commitment to the music of living composers. Jean-Yves Thibaudet performs Gershwin's effervescent Piano Concerto - a touchstone work for both soloist and conductor - in a program that includes Sibelius's heroic Symphony No 2, as well as Brass Tacks by Ted Hearne, a new work commissioned by Carnegie Hall for NYO-USA.
