2018-06-22

Fifteen of the 16 road construction projects including Xingyan Expressway and Yanchong Expressway currently underway will be completed by the end of 2018, to pave the way for the International Horticultural Expo held in Yanqing next year, according to the Yanqing Division of the Highways Bureau of Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.

The 16 roads will total 138 kilometers, according to the transportation authority. In particular, Xingyan Expressway and Yanchong Expressway are newly constructed main roads, while Yankang Road and Kangzhang Road will jointly serve as an important byway. Small roads surrounding the expo site such as Baikang Road, Yannong Road, Shengbai Street, and Fukang Road are connected to the expressways and byway to constitute an advanced network and greatly improve the transport between the expo site and the outer areas. The Yanchong Expressway project will be the only one among the 16 projects left to complete beyond this year.

The construction of the projects will take environmental protection into consideration, the transportation authority said. The Chinese scholar tree (guohuai), known as the tree of the city in Beijing, is chosen as the main plant type alongside the roads. Together with some colorful foliage plants, the vegetation will present a beautiful autumn scenery with a kaleidoscope of golden leaves and blooming flowers.

It is estimated that during the Beijing International Horticultural Expo in 2019, the total distance of highways in Yanqing District can reach 2,060 kilometers, of which 85.27 kilometers are expressways, 66.71 kilometers are first-class highways, and 368.7 kilometers are second-class highways. The highway density will then increase from 99.07 kilometers per 100 square kilometers to 103 kilometers.
