Shichahai Skating Rink enjoys prime location and long history. It has been reputed as well-known entertainment venue in winter since the Ming Dynasty. Skating was approved as a national custom during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. Shichahai boasts water area of about 340,000sqm. The area of skating rink reaches up to 320,000sqm, with actual operating area covering 210,000sqm. With years of standard management experiences in over 10 ice sport facilities, it has become an outdoor rink featuring the largest skating area, the most complete facilities, the highest safety factor and the highest recognition from the mass. Every year, this attraction receives hundreds of thousands of guests, including nearby residents, office workers, tourists, skaters and students.

As one of key venues of nationwide winter fitness campaign in Beijing, Shichahai Skating Rink was listed among the “World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Ice Skating Rinks” by the CNN Travel in 2013 and has been welcomed by tourists at all ages. Shichahai Skating Rink takes the skating as an indispensable activity in winter and is the first choice for Beijing citizens to go skating. It has gained more and more attention from the public thanks to the success of winning the bid to host 2022 Winter Olympics and the popularity of Mr. Six, a Chinese crime drama film. So far, Shichahai Skating Rink has been approved by Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to host soccer competition, and has been incorporated in publicity campaign of bidding for 2022 Winter Olympic Games under approval. The skating rink at Houhai was completed and regularly operated in 2013, which makes the number of skating visitors in this city increase by over 50,000 person times each year.
