Hiking on Great Wall

2017-11-22

Start from Beijing-Chengde Expressway at Miyun District, take the No. 24 exit, namely Simatai exit, drive along Mabei Road heading for Gubeikou Town, pass by Beijing Wtown, Simatai Folk Custom Town, Zihai Herb Manor and Gubeikou Folk Custom Town, and arrive at the Gubeikou Great Wall (the Great Wall at Panlong Mountain). Boasting a long history, Miyun enjoys an abundance of cultural relics and landscape. Except from the Ming Great Wall, it also houses the time-honored Great Wall built during the Northern Qi Dynasty. Stretching away at Miyun District for over 180 kilometers, or one third of Beijing city, Simatai Great Wall is one of a few originally preserved Ming Great Wall sections. So, it is praised as “the Best Great Wall in China” by Professor Luo Zhewen, a well-known expert on the Great Wall. And in 2011, it was dubbed as one of “world’s top ten sceneries that cannot be missed” by British Reuters. Ascending Simatai Great Wall at Panlong Mountain to have a commanding view of red leaves scenery, you would lose yourself in its unique charm against the imposing and elegant Great Wall. Better yet, it would strike a responsive chord in your heart on the poem Snow - On the Pattern of Qinyuanchun by Mao Zedong.
