The Postscript of the Tour to Baqi Cavern and Gushan Village

A tour, consisted two parts – visiting the Baqi Cavern and fruit-pickingin Gushan Village, was organized by Visiting Beijing on July 15. About 40 visitors joined and had a good time.

Visiting Baqi Cavern

The Baqi Cavern is situated at Mentougou, suburban Beijing, whose name originates from the scene of the cavern — eight wonders and eight-shaped stone. Hence, it is praised as “a wonderful cavern created by nature”. The 1350-meter long cavern featuring karst maintains 16 ℃ the whole year with streams flowing. As many eminent monks once preached Buddhism around here in ancient times, abundant Buddha sculptures and stones can be seen in the cavern.

Stepping into the cavern, one sees a large niche for 314 statues of the Buddha, 20 meters wide and 14 meters tall, placed at the gate of the cavern, creating a solemn atmosphere.

One of the most impressive items in the cavern is a slide, making it as exciting as riding a roller-coaster, although being only 410 meters long.

Another impressive scene was “the dragon shadow” that was on the top of a stone. According to the narrator, it was related to a legend of Beijing, the dragon vein, which would influence the city’s destiny. Believe it or not, it definitely amazed all the visitors.

The Underground Great Wall was grand as well. It took over ten years to buildbecause all the materials were delivered by workers from a gap where one person could squeeze in.

Picking in Gushan Village

After an amazing visit to Baqi Cavern, another fun activity, fruit-picking, provoked people’s interest. They not only gained a lot fruits and vegetables but also got familiar with each other. “It’s an unforgettable day and I met a lot interesting friends here.” said an attendant.
