Charming Lakes in Beijing

The word “lake” may remind you of West Lake in Hangzhou, Qinghai Lake in Qinghai Province. However, there are many charming lakes in Beijing which have their special features.

Let’s take a look at these lakes.

Kunming Lake

Kunming Lake is the central lake on the grounds of the Summer Palace in Beijing. It was called Wengshan (Jar Hill) Pond because Longevity Hill’s predecessor is Whengshan. Kunming Lake also got a nickname of “West Lake” because it is located in western suburb of Beijing. You never expect a "West Lake" in Beijing!

With an area of 3,000 acres, Kunming Lake enjoys vast water area and beautiful scenery, attracting lots of visitors during each summer and autumn.

Busy Season (April 1 to October 31): RMB 30,RMB 60 for combination ticket

Slack Season (November 1 to next March 31): RMB 20, RMB 50 for combination ticket

Busy Season (April 1 to October 31): 06:30- 20:00

Slack Season (November 1 to next March 31): 07:00~19:00

Transportation:

Take bus to Yiheyuan Station, Yiheyuan North Palace Gate Station, or Xin Jian Gong Men (Yiheyuan New Palace Gate) Station.

Take subway line 4 to Xin Jian Gong Men (Yiheyuan New Palace Gate).

Yanqi Lake

With a poetic name, Yanqi Late is situated at the foot of the Yanshan Mountain, 8 km north of Huairou, suburb of Beijing. Yanqi Lake takes its name from the flocks of wild geese that come to the lake in spring and autumn.

Because of pure water, Yanqi Lake has attracted flocks of rare birds with high water quality requirement like wildgeese, cranes, white swans and freshwater gulls.

Combination Ticket One: RMB 108 including the admission fee and five entertainment activities chosen from eight

Combination Ticket Two: RMB 88 including the admission fee and 3 entertainment activities chosen from six

Opening Time: 08:00 - 18:30

Transportation:

1. Take public bus No. 936 at Outside Dongzhimen Station and get off at Yanqi Lake Station, ticket price is about RMB 14.

2. Take bus No. 936 or h11, Yujiayuan to Dongyu and get off at Yangjiayuan Station.

Xiangshui Lake

Covering an area of 18 square kilometers, this resort enjoys many beautiful scenic spots such as the Great Wall, gorges and waterfall. It is a good place to climb the Great Wall, walk between the mountains and rivers or live in the farm to experience the fresh and placid farmlife.

Opening Time: 07:00 – 17:00

Transportation:

Take Bus No. 916 from Dongzhimen to the Huairou North Street, then transfer to h34 to Xiangshui Lake.
